tbk Releases New Report: State of Content Management Systems in Ontario (2019)

November 20, 2019

London, ON., November 20, 2019 – Today, tbk released the report State of Content Management Systems in Ontario (2019).

A content management system (CMS) is a system that websites use to allow web managers to easily publish content (e.g., text, images, audio, video), create or remove subpages, and in some cases, architecturally change parts of a given website.

The report is the result of a random audit that tbk performed on 200 organizations across Ontario to understand what CMSs are being selected for corporate websites to help power our economy and society.

The report was multi-sectoral representing:

  • Private Sector, Large (500+ employees) – 50 organizations
  • Private Sector, SME (1-500 employees) – 50 organizations
  • Public Sector – 50 organizations
  • Not-for-Profit Sector – 50 organizations

As an aggregate, the top five CMSs were:

  • WordPress – 35.5%
  • Drupal – 12.5%
  • SiteCore – 7.5%
  • Adobe Experience Manager – 3.5%
  • Kentico – 2.5%

“Across all categories—private sector, public sector and not-for-profit sector—WordPress appears to be the content management system of choice by organizations in Ontario,” said Andrew Schiestel, President tbk. “It’ll be interesting to see in future years when we run this study how all the varying content management systems continue to stack up.”

Here is the full report including category breakdowns.
