tbk Creative’s President Completes A Term As The Chamber’s President

August 8, 2018

August 2, 2018 – On July 1st, 2018 tbk Creative’s President, Andrew Schiestel, completed a term as President (Chair) of the London Chamber of Commerce.

Formed in 1857, the London Chamber is one of London’s oldest and most important institutions, with over one thousand corporate members and working with all levels of government to create a more prosperous economic environment for our businesses and communities.

During Schiestel’s 1-year tenure, much activity for the Chamber occurred including the national network’s reverberating resistance to the federal Liberal government’s initial 2017 tax reform proposal; Schiestel’s appointment to a Canadian Chamber task force to make recommendations to the federal government on how to reform Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation; and hosting a speaking visit by Andrew Scheer, the leader of the Official Opposition during a “Meet the Leader Series” event.

Schiestel proudly represented the London Chamber at the Canadian Chamber’s AGM in Fredericton and the Ontario Chamber’s AGM in Hamilton where he presented / debated policy resolutions before caucus that represented the voice of our business community. Further, he appeared at the House of Commons INDU Committee as an expert witness and shared with our government recommendations on how to reform Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) to make it more competitive for our economy while still protecting consumers.

He also engaged London’s business community which culminated in the formation of two reports: “Improving Involvement and Engagement of Women at the London Chamber” and “How to Make London Even More Competitive in the Digital Economy”.  The result of the former saw the formation of a Chamber task force which is reviewing the report more extensively over the summer and presenting recommendations to the Board in the fall; the latter is scheduled for publication by the fall.

“I’m thoughtfully aware that serving as the London Chamber’s Board President is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and for that, I’m grateful.” said Schiestel. “I’m also appreciative of the tremendous support that our business community provides to our Chamber, year after year. It’s been a great honour to serve you as the President of the Board of Directors, and you are in great hands with new Board President, Marc Lacoursière.”

Schiestel will preside as the Board’s Past-President for the 2018/2019 fiscal year where he will chair both the Chamber’s Nominating Committee and the Past-Presidents’ Golf Classic.
