Reports to: Melissa McInerney, Chief Creative Officer & CEO

At tbk, we engineer Canada’s best web and digital products, platforms and experiences.

As an experienced product designer, you know the number of talented, committed and creative professionals it takes to build effective and cutting-edge e-commerce websites, mobile apps, marketing websites, backend business solutions and digital campaigns. It’s always a group effort, and the Senior Product Designer role is the central figure that sees the vision and goals turn into reality for clients.

tbk is adding to our team of Canada’s best with the addition of a Senior Product Designer. As the agency’s senior product designer, you are working directly with our distinguished client base, our dedicated team, and the companies Chief Creative Officer. The vision and goals of the product are designed alongside the client and the CCO, but after that, the ideas, strategies, research, user-flows, wireframes and more are yours to dream, envision, present and execute alongside our skilled team of designers, developers, digital experts and copywriters.

This role is remote-friendly, with a preference for candidates based in Ontario, Canada.

A day in the life of tbk’s Senior Product Designer:

  • Morning Research – You start your day by reading the latest in design trends online to continuously hone your skills in an ever-changing field.
  • Daily Meeting – Early in the morning, you join tbk’s morning huddle, connecting with the team for 15 minutes to talk about the days happenings. You help ensure your project teams are clear and ready to complete the deliverables needed for the products being designed.
    • You are a great problem-solver and leader for teams. Daily you will help overcome project challenges while briefing and coaching teams on product and project goals and outcomes.
  • Client Consultant – After that, you meet directly with an existing client who runs an E-Commerce website, as their lead Product Designer. You are the lead on this meeting, listening, leading, and advising on solutions to the client’s immediate challenges.
    • You are a natural leader and have over 5 years of experience consulting directly with Canada’s top CEO’s, CMO’s, CFO’s and more. You handle yourself well under pressure as the lead strategist in meetings and can handle clients’ strategic questioning.
  • Client Presentation – Later that day you meet with a multi-national company that chose tbk to launch their new marketing website. Today you are presenting the main page, service pages and CTA page wireframes and user-flows to this client for the first time.
    • You’ve already met internally with the Chief Creative Officer and have received approval on the strategy and wireframes. Now you lead the client why you’ve designed the website the way you have, take feedback and edits and collaborate with the client for the best user experience.
  • Team Support – After that meeting, you regroup with one of your developers who has a question on a feature’s functionality
    • You are skilled at feature documentation and take each question from a developer as a chance to improve documentation in the future.
  • Digital Campaign Creation – You take an hour to design a digital campaign for a Canadian manufacturing client looking to sell more widgets
    • You have experience designing digital campaign ads, ad copy and over 5 years of experience seeing the results of many digital campaigns. You build a brief for our design team to design the ads, and a brief for the digital team to build the deep strategy based on high-level client goals, and you build a wireframe for a lead-converting squeeze page specific to this campaign.
  • Leadership – You end the day with a one on one:
    • You complete the day with a one-on-one with your direct report, tbk’s Chief Creative Officer and CEO Melissa McInerney. As your teammate, Melissa supports you with her 15 years of creative direction and product design experience leading teams and working with Canada’s most innovative companies.

As you can see in the above daily in the life, this role is a central role in the agency and requires senior level experience either as a past Product Designer, a Digital Director, a Creative Director, Senior Designer or Agency Owner.

  • A genuine interest in business and performance – you read to better your leadership, communication, business and design skills
  • A strong portfolio with experience in e-commerce design, marketing website design, mobile app design, digital ad design and backend software design
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly present designs and build alignment across multiple stakeholders
